Driving the same roads day after day, you pass all sorts of cameras. A moment of inattention and you can be caught speeding or jumping a light, losing points and paying a fine. Which cameras deserve particular care?
1. Red-light cameras
These are the most common on the road, and the most capable: a daytime capture rate above 95 per cent, and around 90 per cent at night. They exist mainly to catch red-light running.

2. Speed cameras
These are the best hidden, often mounted where drivers cannot see them, and they measure accurately. If one flashes you several times, expect a fine.

3. Lane and solid-line cameras
Mounted at junctions and on stretches with solid lines, these record illegal lane changes and crossing solid markings.

4. Bus-lane and no-parking cameras
These watch dedicated lanes and no-stopping zones, and they operate continuously.
