Poor technique damages the car and puts the driver at risk. Which habits should be avoided?

1. Cranking repeatedly when it will not start
Starting draws a lot of current. Cranking over and over drains the battery until it cannot start at all. A starter run continuously also overheats and can burn out. Crank briefly, pause, and diagnose.

2. Too many electrical loads running
At night, every light on draws current. With too much load there is not enough voltage for a clean start, starting becomes hard, and the weaker spark builds carbon. The load spike also shortens battery life.

3. Coasting downhill in neutral
Coasting in neutral removes engine braking and leaves you relying on the brakes alone on a descent. Stay in gear.

4. Resting a foot on the clutch
Constant light pressure keeps the release bearing loaded and the clutch partly engaged, wearing both.
